I arose a little before day this morning and answered Bake’s letter. Bill has done very little machining today. It has been quite showery. Nan brought the school girls with her this evening, Helen, Mollie and Lucie.1 ¬†They went out in the yard and cut some watermelons and all had a plenty fun. Gus Hill came in place of Beck.2 Parky ironed today.

  1. Helen may have been Helen Slaughter, 10, Daughter of P. H. Slaughter. All are unknown. I would love to identify these girls, but their names do not reappear to provide a clue. Suggestions?  (back)
  2. Possibly 17 year-old Augustine Hill who appeared in the 1860 U.S. Census in New Kent County. Gus will be back  (back)
